Children & Education
Inspiring, empowering and nurturing Canada’s youth
Our children are destined to inherit the earth—along with its abundant blessings and challenges. As guardians, it’s our responsibility to provide them with the support they need to build an optimistic future.
The Benefaction Children and Education Portfolio supports Canadian organizations that bestow the next generation with an understanding of the challenges they face and a strong sense of self-empowerment. All charities are anchored in the belief that every child is entitled to grow up in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment with opportunities that allow them to achieve their potential.
Purpose: To support programs and services that encourage children to achieve their potential as future leaders through education, training, counselling and self-empowerment programs.
Key Initiatives
• Providing qualified young Canadians with the financing, mentoring and business
resources they need to realize their dreams of starting and running
successful businesses.
• Offering tools, support and tutoring in all provinces to improve literacy skills and,
ultimately, increase the future earning potential of disadvantaged Canadians.
• Preventing diseases in children by training and supporting health care providers internationally.

Frontier College is a national literacy organization founded in 1899. It provides vital literacy programs to 15,000 children, youth and adults each year. It's programs - Reading Circles for children, Homework Clubs for youth and One-To-One Tutoring for Adults - are provided free by 2,500 volunteers. With 42% of adult Canadians struggling to read a bedtime story to their children and help their kids with their homework, it is not surprising to know that low literacy skills are shockingly high and directly linked to poverty, poor health and high unemployment. Through its programs, Frontier transforms lives through literacy.
