Research & Due Diligence
Current Status of Organizations
Registered charities and qualified donees selected by donors are screened to ensure they are listed on the Charities Directorate Database with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
Rigorous Due Diligence
In addition to screening through the CRA database, Benefaction undertakes an assessment of all of the charities in our Charity Portfolios. Benefaction will review the internet or public archives to confirm that organizations clearly articulate and deliver on their mission. This step entails reviewing organizations’ boards of directors and seeking evidence of sound financial reporting, appropriate expenditures, etc.
Site Visit and Evaluation
Benefaction may also visit each organization, measuring excellence in key areas such as management and board activities, and whether programs and services are reaching target groups and producing results.
Annual Review
Benefaction will review the Charity Portfolios on an annual basis to ensure each registered charity continues to meet our criteria for inclusion in a portfolio; and to determine any new portfolios or organizations for support in the coming years.
